This traditional dish is the favourite of many
A generous layer of mince, covered in mash potato with a grilled cheese topping – it’s all but a complete meal in one spoonful!
Add some peas for some extra colour!
Drizzle olive oil into a saucepan and stir in the onion, carrots and celery
Allow to cook for 3-4 mins before stirring in the mince
Cook until the meat browns and as it starts to do so, add in the red wine, mixed herbs, garlic, tomato puree and Worchester Sauce
Mix together well and then stir in the chopped tomatoes and stock
Leave to simmer for 30 mins
Peel and chop the potatoes into small pieces
Place the chopped potatoes into a saucepan and will with cold water, and add a pinch of salt
Bring the pan to boil and cook for about 15-20 mins, until the potatoes are soft in the middle
Once ready, drain the water from the pan and add butter and milk, and mash all together
Pour the mince mixture into the oval roaster and spread out evening
Spoon on top of the mince the mash potato, so to cover the surface of the mince
Sprinkle on a generous topping of grated cheddar cheese
Place in the oven for 15-20mins at 355F
